FarmPAC, the political action committee of the influential Alabama Farmers Federation, endorsed Rep. Martha Roby, R-Montgomery, for re-election on Tuesday.
The federation represents some 360,000 members. The endorsement for the 2018 election marks the fourth consecutive campaign where Roby gained the organization's backing.
"Agriculture is the largest employer in Alabama's Second District, and I know how important it is for our farmers to have someone willing to fight on their behalf in Washington as they continue to provide food and fiber for the world," the congresswoman said in a statement. "I am grateful to have the strong support of the Alabama Farmers Federation, and I look forward to continuing to stand up for all of Alabama's farmers in Congress."
Jimmy Parnell, the federation's president, called Roby "a true friend of farmers."
"She not only understands the issues facing the agriculture community, but she is also extremely responsive to the needs of the members we serve," he said. We are proud to stand by Martha Roby and continue to support her as she works on behalf of the people of Alabama's Second District."
Roby is running for a fifth term. She is being challenged in the Republican primary by former Roy Moore campaign manager Rich Hobson, state Rep. Barry Moore and former U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright, whom Roby defeated in 2010.
